STD S2, E4: Uhh… I think they did a Star Trek!

Everyone has been praising season 2, and compared to season 1 it certainly is a major improvement. But it hasn’t really been Star Trek. The first episode was JJTrek, the second episode was… let’s call it a mixed bag, and the third episode was terrible in basically every way.

Even with the improvements made in the first two episodes, I remained convinced (with lots of evidence) that this writers room couldn’t write itself out of a paper bag without needing to check Memory Alpha to find some random references to shove in without context (and then have Kurtzman do thirty interviews about how clever they are for putting it in there).

Just let me act, Michael.

Anyway, like I was saying, the writing on Star Trek Discovery has ALWAYS been the show’s biggest problem. You can have great special effects and actors, but if they’re reading shit, your final product will still be shit. I always laugh when someone on the tweeter says “omg i love the writing” after Space Hitler tells Superheroine that Capt. Bad Accent sexually abused her mirror counterpart as a child. That actually happened.
