Star Trek Discovery S4, Episode 6: Space is loud!

Remember: Black Alert is when all the blue lights come on.

Burnham opens the episode “thinking about family” as she builds a family tree and we get reminded of all the idiocy that happened in the first three seasons.

There’s a metaphor here, I just know it…

Burnham is determined to fly into the wake of the DMA and it all goes to hell. Their little Wall-E droid disintegrates, which is a nice touch. Grey and the now-sentient computer do some shit, I dunno, it’s boring. The ship gets lost, forcing Book to use the sporedrive. But — oh shit! — it doesn’t work! Book starts hallucinating, I dunno, it’s boring. It’s crazy how boring they’ve made Book and his whole story.

I’ll give the show credit for one thing: they’ve embraced giving bridge officers roles. In previous seasons, Burnham herself would have been running the scans, doing the math, and coming up with the solutions. It took them a while, but they’re finally dividing the labor and a Frakes signature is the “switching between bridge officers” shots.

The ship starts disintegrating too, and there’s an unnecessarily brutal death of a gold shirt. The computer is a thing now and what the actual fuck is going on? Saru gives a speech about winning the day. He’s by far the better captain and making Burnham captain was always a mistake. Speaking of, she’s over in her ready room…
