I definitely agree with the sentiment that the Force is more than one aristocrat family in the whole Galaxy and I absolutely enjoy the way RJ redirected it to be “the rebellion is in all of us” but my issue is specifically that Rey was heavily implied to be a “somebody.” And weirdly, Johnson is taking SW back to it’s egalitarian and democratic roots that Lucas abandoned. Lucas turned Anakin — who originally was just a random jedi — into space jesus, so I find it odd that there’s so much push back in the commentary to Rey being a “somebody.” Ultimately, there are plenty of folktale motifs for orphans and nobodies as well as scions and heirs, so if the story works, it works.
