“The Defenders” Immediate Reaction — Spoilers
Now, y’all know I love me some Wu-Tang. But the “Protect Ya Neck” mini-fight-scene within the larger fighting-in-a-dragon-skeleton fight scene so was random. They used Run the Jewels for the first office building fight, and I think it would have been fine to use some Killer Mike again for the final fight. Poetry, it rhymes.
The cinematography and visual production of The Defenders is amazing. That entire team needs to win all the awards. Identifying each of them with a main color [Red-DD, Blue-JJ, Yellow-LC, Green-IF] and then having them form up in a Chinese restaurant featuring all neon red, blue, yellow, and green was a subtle but powerful piece of visual storytelling. When Murdock first appears to Jessica Jones in the holding cell, the door behind him reflects bright red. The final scene with Iron Fist staring at the Empire State Building decked out in red. This was called The Defenders and it was an ensemble story, but this was Daredevil’s show.
Speaking of visuals — Elektra… just stunning. She’s the best Vader since Vader.
People complain (for some reason) that the Marvel shows could be “trimmed down” and they “drag on” over 13 episodes. a) No they don’t, shut up. b) If anything The Defenders could have been 13 episodes and at only 8, it left me wanting more. If you want less of these shows, you’re a spoiled brat.
Daredevil-Elektra is the love tragedy I didn’t know I needed to see.
